Joseph Petrosino Ph.D ’98, Fel. ’02 is being honored by Baylor College of Medicine with this year's Distinguished Alumnus Award – Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Baylor’s annual Alumni Awards program recognizes alumni and faculty for excellence in research, teaching and patient care.

As part of the awards program, our honorees identify an area of the College they would like to highlight for support. Dr. Joseph F. Petrosino, Chief Scientific Innovation Officer at Baylor College of Medicine, is a leading expert in molecular virology and microbiome research. He chairs the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology and directs the Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research (CMMR), which he founded in 2011. Dr. Petrosino was a principal investigator for the NIH Human Microbiome Project and has led over 500 microbiome-related projects. He also founded Diversigen, a start-up that commercializes microbiome research. As CSIO, he oversees BCM Ventures, spearheading the College’s technology transfer and commercialization initiatives.
