Nearly 15% of school-age children worldwide suffer from recurring abdominal pain that impacts play, school, and other activities. The cause of the pain is unclear. While up to 60% of these children go on to have similar abdominal pain as adults, current management and treatment strategies are suboptimal.
The goals of the Center for Pediatric Abdominal Pain Research are to understand the causes of the pain and to develop new, cost-effective treatments that are targeted to the individual child. Our research team consists of physicians, basic scientists, psychologists, and staff committed to improving the lives of affected children and preventing the progression of the disorder into adulthood.
