Support the Kochel Lab in the Department of Pediatrics

Led by Robin Kochel, Ph.D., Associate Professor, the Kochel Lab aims to create knowledge about and advance our understanding of autism. Studies conducted in the Kochel Lab cover several topics, including characterization and diagnosis of autism, treatment evaluation and how perceptions of autism influence the way parents make health decisions for their children.

The Kochel Lab is seeking financial support for two new research programs:

  • Early Identification of Autism: Many obstacles contribute to delayed autism diagnoses, which in turn limits the impact of therapy for affected children. The Kochel Lab seeks to collaborate with primary care pediatricians, parents and autism specialists to identify such challenges and improve developmental outcomes for children with autism.
  • Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy: Childhood-vaccine hesitancy, particularly concerning a widely debunked link between vaccines and autism, has increased the number of outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Through community educational platforms tailored for specific vaccines and target audiences, the Kochel Lab aims to increase vaccine acceptance and reduce the resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases.
